The Story
“And you know what the power of belief means here, right? What realizations we come to by the power of the mind when in the now, where everything can be made real?”
She nodded. “’The difference between the real and the now.’ Faust’s most famous phrase. It’s a slogan- a… catchphrase in the city. Everyone uses it even if they don’t understand it.”
Crowley’s face brightened as he stood and turned to the door. “That’s the way it always is. But you understand. That knowledge is probably more important than anything you’ve done to date.”
Dystopia is the fusion of the electronic and the magical; the actual and the fantastical; the brutal and the elegant; crossing genres and boundaries where what is real is less important than who is there to see it and how they might choose to exploit it. It’s the exercise of modernism to the Nth degree, when cyberspace is one step away from sorcery and yet another step away from black comedy.
